Can I use a 150-watt power supply for an HP Z-book (1-yr old) for my HP Pavilion (4-yrs old) that normally uses a 45-watt power supply?

Welcome to our HP User Forum!
As long as the charger's output connector size (external diameter) is 4.5mm -in other words fits, and the 150-watt charger also provides 19.5 V (should be around 7.69 ± 0.2 amps), you should be A-OK.
[EDIT:] Just looked up your HP Z-book's 150 watt power supply charger's specs (HP p/n: 775626-003), and yes it is fine. Your 150 watt charger will hardly 'break a sweat', so to speak, but it is compatible.
Hope this helps.
