HP Pavilion 15-cu1006tx
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hello!

I have a HP Pavilion 15-cu1006tx notebook. It suddenly shut down yesterday while running on battery (less than 30 minutes). Today, when I opened it up, it showed a warning message about the battery before loading. When I ran battery check via HP Support Assistant, I got the following result:

Screenshot 03-05-2022 08.08.36.png

The result shows "Warranty Type: 3"; I don't know if it means 3-year battery warranty or something else. It also says: "The battery may be covered by your HP Warranty. Please contact HP." However, HP's diagnostic tools show the product warranty status, but do not specify the warranty status of the battery.

I also tried to lookup replacement battery for my particular model, but did not find anything relevant.

Now,

a) Is there a way to check if the battery warranty is still valid? If yes, then how to check that and subsequently claim it?

b) In case I have to buy a replacement battery, how and where do I find the specific battery compatible with the HP Pavilion 15-cu1006tx?

Standard HP battery warranty on consumer models in the US is one year. I have an HP laptop from about the same era and it also shows a Warranty Type 3 and its one year. I suspect your laptop is more like 3 years old so your battery is not going to be covered by warranty. It is most certainly in need of replacement.

HP Parts Store has it on backorder and charges $90.59 for it. You can get a workable compatible battery on amazon.com here:

Your Service manual http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c06140008.pdf  states you need HP part L11119-855. It's not going to be covered unless you bought an extended warranty that covers the battery.

Thank you for your response.

Now, there is a significant difference between the pricing of the replacement battery from HP and Amazon/eBay. If the battery rating/ part number is the same, is there any particular advantage of buying it from HP for $90+, rather than choosing from options between $40-$45 ?

Now you are understanding the battery market. HP is not a battery store. It is a burden to them to sell batteries so they charge more. A battery seller works in higher volume so can charge less. The question is kind of moot anyway as HP does not have any to sell you at the $90+ price.
