Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard and older

Hi!

I have Mac OS X 10.6.8 Snow Leopard on my HP ProBook 4530s.

It is upgraded to 16 GB Ram and working fine. The laptop is for the music making only.

The system uses inner graphics of CPU - Intel HD Graphics 3000. It is ok, I don’t need more.

But I feel lack of CPU a little, so I’ve decided to upgrade CPU too.

Please, can you tell me what CPU I have to buy for replacing?

As I understand, it has to be:

1. Sandy bridge compatible

2. With Intel HD Graphics 3000 inside

3. Compatible power with motherboard

I saw some advices, but all of them are old. Does anybody know what the last compatible CPU with Intel HD Graphics 3000 for my ProBook 4530s?

Just don't want to buy a useless CPU.

Thanks in advance!

@Tchoor,

Welcome to our HP User Forum!

The fastest confirmed compatible processer for your HP ProBook 4530s according to: http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c03054480.pdf, is the Intel Core i7-2670QM (4 cores, 8 threads - 2.20 to 3.10 GHz) which has the Intel HD Graphics 3000 you requested.

That the i7-2670QM is the fastest CPU for your laptop is also confirmed here: https://www.userbenchmark.com/System/HP-ProBook-4530s/693.

[EDIT:] You can get an i7-2670QM for as little as $28 via eBay: https://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_from=R40&_nkw=i7-2670QM&_sacat=0&LH_ItemCondition=3000&LH_PrefLoc=1....

[EDIT:] Theoretically, the i7-2760QM (same socket: FCPGA988 and TDP = 45 watt) should be compatible with your laptop, but found no examples online that any HP ProBook 4530s user has installed one of these processors.  Also, the relative performance increase would only be a paltry 4%.

Hope this was helpful.

Thanks!
I did some research and found that:
Many people have i7-2760QM on their HP probooks 4530s (native or upgraded), but some people installed i7-2720QM and it is working. The posts about it are about 2018. But I'm interested in the LAST possible Intel CPU for my HP probooks 4530s if it is not i7-2720QM.

@Tchoor,

Fiddlesticks on a wombat: you are correct about the i7-2760QM: after some  additional digging I can confirm that this processor is indeed compatible with your HP ProBook 4530s.  Here is one reference: https://www.userbenchmark.com/UserRun/30681777.

So, digging on, according to: https://www.cpu-upgrade.com/CPUs/Intel/Core_i7_Mobile/i7-2760QM_(PGA).html, an i7-2860QM (TDP = 45 watt) should also be compatible, but I am not sure about the i7-2920XM or the i7-2960XM, as they have TDPs of 55 watt.

If you are willing to go boldly where none/few have gone before, you can get an i7-2960XM for around $125 via eBay.  If this CPU happens to be not compatible with your laptop, you could return it to sender and get your hard-earned money back as long as you make sure that the eBay Seller allows for a "30 day return".

Thanks for your help! I will try to do that and will say if it is worked. If so - it will be an accepted solution and I hope it will help some freaks with such old laptops like mine 🙂

@Tchoor,

I am very interested in what you are going to find out.  I happen to have a legacy HP ProBook 6560b with an i7-2720QM, and if the XM's are shown to be compatible, I may upgrade too.

It will be not so fast - I have to leave for a while and after returning home I will go back to my problem. Thanks anyway, you are very helpful.
