ProBook 4540s
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hello,

I try to upgrade RAM on my ProBook 4540s to 16 Gb.

Previously I had 4 Gb and 2 Gb RAM cards. Now I installed a new 8 Gb card (RAM 8,00Gb Single-Channel DDR3 @ 798MHz (11-11-11-28)) when I add one more absolutely the same card my laptop does not start. I run the Memory test after the installation of both cards and had 'Passed' status. The same happens if I add any of the old cards along with the new one. It seems like I am not able to have more than 8 Gb installed.

Best regards.

Thank you for the reply, but I want to ask if it always was the case that 8 Gb is the limit? Because there is this topic where it was stated that this laptop can support 16 Gb RAM. https://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Notebook-Hardware-and-Upgrade-Questions/ProBook-4540s-Maximum-Supporte...

Hi, @bloodymary77

The 4540s does support 16 GB of memory.

You probably bought memory that is incompatible with that model.

There is a quirk though that happens when you install 2 x 8 GB of memory...you can read this discussion and the fix that solves it...

But first, you are going to have to find memory that will work.
