The CD/DVD drive spins like it's trying to load then it slows down, starts and stops a few times, then ejects the disk. I have tried several types of discs without success. I have also cleaned the lens and still no success. I'm not sure what else I can do after this.

Try a "data" CD, such as device-drivers for a printer, or a Windows Installation Media disk.

I'm guessing that you'll get the same message, due to a HARDWARE problem with the CD/DVD drive, which implies that you will need to replace it.

Click your computer's information

Scroll down to Multimedia and download and install the driver for Power dvd

When I went to Software-Multimedia, there were no entries for Power DVD. There were two entries for Cyberlink PowerDirector Software and one for Cyberlink Youcam Software.

Hi,

Seems like the driver update for power dvd is no longer available for your computer.

Boot the computer to start menu

Turn off the computer

Turn it back on then tap away ESC

Select F2 for Diagnostics

Click component test then select quick test then run once

Check if you are going to get  any failure ids

Please update us with your computer's progress

Regards,

Norman

If the disks can be read in some other computer, then the disks are OK, and the fault is inside your CD/DVD optical drive.

It's time to replace it.

P.S. "PowerDVD" is software for playing DVD disks -- since your drive is "ejecting" the media, there is nothing that PowerDVD can do to read & process the media.

The test said to put in a non-blank CD. I put in an audio CD. It did not work. All I got was the message "Please insert optical media for read testing."

I'm guessing that you'll get the same message, due to a HARDWARE problem with the CD/DVD drive, which implies that you will need to replace it.

I tried the diagnostics thing 3 times with a data CD and finally I got the message "There is no media in the drive or it was not recognized."

I repeat my comment:

and I repeat my suggestion to replace it.
