Hi there,
I'd like to know if I can replace and upgrade my processor using the same motherboard or does the sockets vary for processors based on their make? My laptop configurations are as follows:
Make / Model: HP - Pavilion g6
Processor: AMD A4-4300M APU with Radeon(tm) HD Graphics 2.5 Ghz
Ram: Hynix, 8 GB (upgraded from 4 GB to 8 GB)
Operation System: Windows 10 Home Single Language (Originally Windows 8 with the sticker underneath at the base but couldn't upgrade or recover due to processing failure and managed to install afresh OS)
In addition to the aforementioned query, I'd like to know if someone can tell me why does my laptop shut off even on a charged battery, especially when formatting the PC. I ended up deleting my recovery drive as well when i attempted multiple times to recover and assumed that the drive was corrupt.
Thanks in anticipation!

Hi:
Below is the link to the service manual for your notebook.
http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c03593126
The supported processors can be found in chapter 1 on page 1.
The best you can do would be the AMD A10-4600M.
I can only guess why the notebook shuts down with a fully charged battery and that would be due to the battery not being any good.
You will need to leave it connected to the power adapter until you can get a replacement.
If the notebook shuts down with a fully charged battery and even if the power adapter is plugged in, remove the battery and see if the PC will run off the charger alone. If it does, the battery is no good.

Hi Paul
Thanks for your quick response.
Apparently the manual link you have posted happens to be a G7 service manual – could you please repost the link for G6 ?
As for the supported processors, could you also confirm if I can replace it to Intel? Or do you mean the hardware requirement / support specs remain same?
Pertaining to the battery, the system does not shut off when the battery is removed during the direct plug in or when used without battery but often when used on a battery, I face the auto shut down and does not start over unless the power adapter and also the battery is removed and inserted back.
Thanks!

You're very welcome.
I had edited my post a while ago, and inserted the correct link to the g6's with AMD processors.
I guess you saw the manual before I changed it.
The g6 and g7's have the same hardware, just that the displays are a different size.
G6's have the 15.6" display and the G7's have the 17.1" display.
You would not be able to install an Intel processor in your notebook's AMD motherboard.
It sounds to me like there is a problem with the battery of some kind...a bad cell, or a short circuit or something.
