Does anyone know if a BY80607002526AE (Corei7 940xm socket G1) go into a system with a BX80607I7720QM (Corei7 720 QM socket G1) processor and increase processing power significantly? At least enough to be worth the added $150 upgrade?

No the only available upgrade is:
i7-820-QM, 1.73 GHz, SC turbo up to 3.06 GHz
The first gen Intel Core processors were a bit of "work in progress". They run hot and are not as powerful as one would think because of the low non-Turbo clock speed. Intel did not start to "get it right" until the 2d generation and each generation since then has been an improvement.
