And what is a GPU

HP Recommended

The only BIOS available on HP's site is

F.61 Rev.A (May 13, 2016)

will this be ok to use or do i specifically need the  BIOS F.60 Rev.A(30 nov. 2015)

HP Recommended

Yes, 620M socket G1 is the upiest (according to the Latest BIOS F.60 Rev.A(30 nov. 2015).

To get your current BIOS version, you must enter "setup" on boot (escape then F1) see revision ROM

Enjoy

I upgraded 2 y ago with this one ( BIOS F.60 Rev.A(30 nov. 2015) and it's ok

See the release notes for earlier BIOS (2016) or ask HP support to make sure.

In my opinion the F.61 Rev.A (2016) will be fine to support the i7-920M while mine (F.60 Rev.A (2015) is ok

GPU stands for Graphic Processors Unit.

The PROBOOK 4720s comes with a discrete graphical card (ATI/AMD Radeon) for better experience than using the iGPU (Integrated Graphical Processor Unit, internal to most of the CPUs)

When you will replace your CPU, you will see the GPU die (such as a mirror surface) on the left side (CPU die is on the right side).

DO NOT FORGET TO CLEAN BOTH The GPU and CPU surfaces (removing old thermal pad with soft textile or paper)

and DO NOT FORGET TO apply on BOTH (CPU and also GPU) dies the NEW thermal interface.

I suggest you the THERMAL GRIZZLY Kryonaut which is the best for airflow cooling.

Because the I7-920M is much more powerful than the original CPU, while we cannot change the aircooling system,

for removing heat from the CPUs and GPUs to the radiator and fan you need a good thermal conduction to evacuate.

While we cannot change the aircooling system,  for removing heat from the CPUs and GPUs to the radiator and fan you need a good thermal conduction to evacuate.

Upgrading to an i5-540m cpu will produce more heat, use the THERMAL GRIZZLY Kryonaut, both for the CPU AND the GPU.

i7-620M, 2.26-GHz, 4-MB cache 587259-001

the max TDP should not exceed 35W

same as this:

Intel Core i7-620M SLBPD Dual Core 2.66GHz 4M Mobile Laptop CPU Socket PGA988

Thanks.
