Hello,

I'm looking into upgrading the storage space on my son's laptop, I have read that there is an additional storage slot, but I cant seem to verify if this is another M2 PCIE flash drive slot, or if it is a SATA with 2.5" mounted.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thank you

Right now your son's laptop has a 256 gig M.2 PCIe/NVME SSD and that occupies the single M.2 slot. There is the possibility to have in addition a standard 2.5 inch hard drive or SATA SSD. However, you would need to procure additional parts:

(2) Hard drive brackets not available as spare part
(3) Hard drive connector/cable L72698-001

Right off you see the bracket is not something HP will sell you, but the cable is. You can get by without the bracket, however.

There are generic 2.5 inch disk mounting pads that can be used instead. With an SSD you can even just stick it in there with dual sided tape as there are no moving parts.

HP also does not have the cable in stock:

If you are serious about this I can likely locate the cable for you somewhere. You can also just upgrade the existing M.2 SSD to a larger capacity model say 1 TB. Prices have come way down and by the time you buy a cable and mounting brackets and a 2.5 inch disk it would not be much more expensive to just get a larger M.2 SSD.
