Hello, I am asking about what my options could be for upgrading the apu. Right now, my laptop has an AMD A6-4400m dual core, and I'm wondering if this laptop will support quad core  Richland APUs (i.e. A10-5750m), or if I'll have to stay with Trinity. I'm asking as this apu is beginning to show its age and is starting to struggle with some tasks.

Thanks

You can certainly go off the reservation and try anything. The only safety and certainty is to use one of the APUs listed in the manual. Beyond that, you are in the Twilight Zone.

According to the Manual your top option is an A10-4600M. So that is the most I can really be pretty sure you can use. I do seem to recall a thread here where somebody said an A10-5750M worked for him but that was a while back and I am not sure I can find it. The A10-4600M would be a pretty major upgrade from what you have and they are cheap and a drop in replacment.

Post back with any further questions and please accept as solution if its the info you needed.

I also have one more question, I noticed these eTrinity APUs floating around the used market and I wonder if these would work as a drop in replacement, as they are also FS1r2 based.

Ill probably go with the 4600m, as it is the safest bet as well as getting another 4gb stick of ram to hold me over until I get a better laptop later on.

Thanks.

Confirmed the 5750 upgrade works. I struggled to get hold of a 4600 from uk so i took a gamble and got the 5750 but did read bios needs to be version f26 which mine was already.
