I did a battery check on my laptop and created a case due to battery issues. I got a number from hp support to call for help. The number was [edited]. I want to know if this number is a valid line for hp. I called and the person directed me to type in hp.com/123 into the browser. Once at the website, I downloaded a file for the person to use logmein to have remote access to my laptop. I followed through and he just tried to update some things through hp support. I wanted to know if the phone number and website were valid under hp.

Yes, that number is also legit as well as...[edited]

 

But unless you are expecting a call from HP, never take it as safe that you are being called by HP because scammers can spoof the legitimate phone number in the caller ID system.

Hi:

 

Yes, that seems to be a legitimate number for HP.

 

I just called it and got the automated HP phone assistant.

 

I entered the website link you posted and that is legit too.

 

The agent should have given you a 6 digit code to enter.

Yes, he gave me the code and then I downloaded Support-LogMeInRescue.exe. Is this safe?

He took control of the device for a bit to do updates through hp support but I stopped the connection and the call. I was called back by the phone number 800-474-6836. Is this legit as well?
