Envy 15-j110ng
Microsoft Windows 8.1 (64-bit)

Hi,

i have a HP Envy 15j-110ng which i want to upgrade before switching to Windows 10.

I want to swap the installed 8GB (2x4) of RAM to 2x8GB - is that possible? Will any DDR3 SO-DIMM work, or are there compatibility issues?

I found an unpopulated Mini-PCIe Socket inside the device - is it possible to use a SSD in that slot? Will the system be able to boot from Mini-PCIe?

Oh and were do i get a replacement fan? Mine starts getting louder...

Thanks in advance

Martin

1. For RAM: yes, you can use 2 x 8GB using

             8 GB (PC3L, 12800, 1600 MHz) part # 693374-001

or similar from Crucial, Samsung ...

2. mini-PCIe port:  Machine does not have PICe (or M.2) slot for storage. That is mSATA port which is designed for cache.

            https://www.wepc.com/tips/ssd-cache/

You can use that port for storage. Please try the following instructions

       https://www.laptopmag.com/articles/install-msata-ssd-tutorial

Note: If I was you, I would not do that, I would upgrade existing HDD to 1TB or 2TB SSD, much better and much easier.

Regards.
