OMEN by HP 15t-dh000 CTO
Microsoft Windows 11

I'm using Omen HP Laptop 15-dh0xxx, with the original installed RAM of DDR4 16GB (8GB x 2) 2666mhz. My processor is Intel Core i7 9750H.

I was told that for upgrading RAM I have to use DDR4 2666mhz and not DDR4 3200mhz as my laptop only supports 2666mhz. So, I purchased Timetec Pinnacle 32GB memory DDR4 RAM 2666mhz. After properly installing it, my laptop is working even slower. In the task manager, 32 GB is showing up. When I'm copying anything it's taking even more time.

1. If my laptop only supports 16GB and not 32GB of Ram? And if 32GB of Ram is supported then do I need to use 3200 mhz one and not 2666 mhz?

2. Also please let me know if I have to do any setting change in BIOS or anywhere else to make the new RAM work smoothly after the upgrade?

Did you install 2 x 16 GB of memory or 1 x 32GB of memory?

1 x 32 GB of memory will only run in single channel mode.

What is the CL speed of the DDR4-2666 MHz memory you installed?

It should be CL19 for DDR4-2666.

If it is a lower CL speed like 18, 17 or 16, that may be the cause of your dilemma if you did install 2 x 16 GB of memory.

The service manual indicates that you can only install 16 GB of memory maximum per slot.

I don't know who informed you that DDR4-3200 MHz memory wouldn't work.

That is not correct.

It will work fine as long as you buy 2 x 16 GB DDR4-3200 CL22 memory chips, like these, if you want Timetek memory:

https://www.amazon.com/Timetec-DDR4-3200-PC4-25600-Unbuffered-Notebook/dp/B098TYN671/ref=sr_1_4?crid...

Since your notebook's processor can only run the memory at a maximum speed of 2666 MHz the 3200 MHz memory automatically bridges to 2666 MHz.

It will not run at 3200 MHz.

I Installed 2*16GB memory. The one I purchased has Non-ECC Unbuffered 1.2V CL19 2Rx8 Dual Rank 260 Pin SODIMM.

Here is the link of the RAM I purchased:

https://www.amazon.com/Timetec-DDR4-2666-PC4-21300-PC4-2666V-Unbuffered/dp/B0DBH6DQ7Q/ref=pd_ci_mcx_...

I upgraded to the CL19 version DDR4 2666 Mhz, I don't know why it is so slow. Even booting is taking time. Does any version of the CL will work? Please suggest me what i need to do?

Unfortunately, looking at the specs I don't know what the problem could be.

The DDR4-2666 MHz CL19 spec is correct for what your notebook would use and should have worked fine.

I do not recommend installing memory with a faster CL speed.

That would probably be worse that is if the notebook even booted up at all.

The only other suggestion I can offer would be to try the Crucial DDR4-3200 MHz memory kit they recommend for your notebook:

https://www.crucial.com/compatible-upgrade-for/hp-compaq/hp-15t-dh000-cto

It's more expensive but if it solves the problem, it would be worth it.

You can buy that kit part number on Amazon if it is easier to return things on there.
