Hi, I have upgraded the HP6550b Probook with Windows 11 an it works fine - no problems at all. My question is, this Notbook has only 4GB Ram and a second empty slot for RAM. Is ist possible to use more than 4GB Ram per slot - so that I have 16GB Ram? Or does the hardware only identify 4GB Ram per slot?

Thanky a lot .... - by the way - my old Pavilion 500-305ng works although fine with Windows 11 - only for Mail, Surfing and some Office Solution not bad.##

@MiGraf59,

Your service manual (on page 4) shows your model comes with two memory slots and supports 8 GB (2x4 GB) DDR3-1600 Mhz.

If you wish to install 16 (2x8) GB, you can click this link to find the max RAM capacity your model can handle.

@MiGraf59

Since your notebook has an Intel 1st gen core processor, you have to be extremely precise regarding the memory you need to install in your notebook.

16 GB may work but only if your notebook has a quad core processor.

The dual core processors only support 2 x 4 GB.

Now for the memory:

It cannot be any faster than PC3-10600 (DDR3-1333 MHz.

It must be dual ranked - 8 little black memory chips on each side of the circuit board, not 4.

Something like this:

I can only find a 2 x 4 GB kit with this specification, not a single 4 GB chip

If your notebook has an Intel quad core processor:

You can read this related discussion for what will happen if you just install any 4 GB DDR3 memory chip:

I have found this to be true for any HP notebook with Intel 1st gen core processors.

The same can be said for the HP business desktops with the Pentium and 1st Gen core processors that use DDR3 UDIMM memory.

Hello to all, thanks a lot. Now I use a one 4GB Memory for having 8 RAM. It will be sufficient for the use of this desktop

very kind regards
