My laptop has 1 stick of 8gb RAM. I wish to add a 8gb or 16gb RAM memory stick. So I can match the RAM of the new stick with what is in my computer, what is the latency of the RAM in my machine? and is it single or double rank?
Second question, can I add a 16gb stick to the 8gb I have, totaling 24gb RAM?

You're very welcome.
This is all the information you will find on that part number...

As far as ranking...this link will explain how to figure that out...
From what I can tell doing a google search of that part number, it is single rank, because I see labels that indicate 1rx8 on them.

The latency is the same for all memory of the same speed...for example 2666 MHz memory all have a latency of CL19.

Hi:
Below is the link to the specs for your notebook.
https://store.hp.com/us/en/pdp/hp-pavilion-gaming-laptop-17t-5xx64av-1#!
You can install a max of 2 x 16 GB of PC4-2666 MHz memory.
I cannot find a parts list or service manual for that model at this time.
You can add a 16 GB chip to the 8 GB chip, but you don't want to leave it that way.
When you have an empty slot or install memory in mismatched capacities, the memory runs in the lower performing single data rate (SDR) mode.
When you install memory in matched capacities (2 x 8 GB, 2 x 16 GB), the memory runs in the higher performing dual data rate (DDR) mode.

Thanks for the quick response and info, noted on using RAM that is of the same capacity. My laptop has the RAM that is part number 937236-855. So my questions really apply to that particular RAM: what is it's latency and is it single or double rank?
