You have a few options.
1) Use the recovery flashdrive you should have created by now with the HP Recovery manager to make a clean install.
2) Use a USB to M.2 external adapter and cloning software to migrate your OS exactly as is to the new M.2 SSD.
What brand, model and type of 2TB M.2 SSD did your purchase?

Thank you for your response.
I simply need a clear set of steps to follow in order that I do not have any negative results.
I puchased a Samsung SSD.
SSD 860 EVO M.2 SATA 2TB
I wonder if I will need to partition the new drive after cloning my 128 GB SSD?

When you use the external adapter with the M.2 drive inside, you can use the Samsung Data migration software to clone the OS and data from the original to the new Samsung SSD.
Here is a link to the available Samsung SSD software. Back up your important data in advance!!

Here is the Data Migration manual in English
Personally, I would use the HP Recovery media to perform a clean installation of the OS.
The OEM HP Recovery partition is the only partition not cloned by the Samsung Data migration utility!
I would consider that to be an issue.
Read the limitations page carefully before beginning the migration .

You will need a USB flash drive of 8-32 GB in storage capacity to create the recovery media. KIngston and PNY are known to work well in media creation. I used a USB 3.0 Type-C flash drive this year. Not all USB drives will work properly. Do not use DVD recordable media!
There is a link to the User manual for your notebook. in the line below this one.
http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c05631728
Open the pdf file and go to page 48.
Boot to Windows and login. In the search box type in recovery and click on the HP Recovery Manager App icon that appears above.
That should invoke the HP Recovery Manager. Click on Yes to allow the HP Recovery Manager to launch.
Plug the USB flash drive into an available USB port before clicking on Create recovery media.
Follow the steps that are shown onscreen. It will take a while to create the HP Recovery media.
The utility will let you know when it has successfully created the media.
Once you have created the HP recovery media flash drive, label it.
Log out of Windows and shut down the notebook.
Back up your important data to an external storage device!
Plug the newly created recovery media flash drive into a USB port on your notebook.
Remove the original M.2 SSD and install the new M.2 Hard drive
Now you can use the HP recovery media to install the OS to the new M.2 SSD.
Press the power button and immediately tap the Esc button.
In the Esc menu choose boot options.
Select the USB flash drive as your boot choice.
Your notebook should boot to the recovery manager on the flash drive.
Choose Factory Image recovery and click on yes to confirm your choice when requested.

If you use the USB recovery flash drive created with the HP Recovery Manager, the recovery partition will be created as part of the factory image recovery.
Which recovery type did you choose?
