I want to upgrade the DDR4 RAM installed in my 15AW65SA Pavillion from 8gb (2x4) to 16gb (2x8). I have done a lot of research and currently the prices vary ridiculously depending on the frequency of RAM you are looking for.
The frequency in Task manager shows 1866mhz. I can find 2400mhz Crucial at a semi-reasonable price and understand that this will work, albeit it will only run at 1866mhz in the system. I have found 2x8gb of 3200mhz significantly cheaper.
My question is, will the laptop run this RAM or is this a step to far? &/or What is the upper limit in frequency f RAM the laptop will accept?
I used this previous post as reference:
Thanks again for any advice!

Hi,
Yes you can use 3200Mhz RAM and it will run at 1866Mhz as the RAM will be able to run at different timings. Example of compatible RAM
https://www.crucial.com/compatible-upgrade-for/hp---compaq/pavilion-15-aw065sa
On page 34 of service manual you can see the steps to install the RAM
https://www.crucial.com/compatible-upgrade-for/hp---compaq/pavilion-15-aw065sa
You should also replace the mechanical hard drive with an SSD which would give a great boost to the everyday performance.
Hope it helps,
David

Many many thanks for the reply. I have already installed a Crucial 500gb SSD. I need to increase RAM as I sometimes use the laptop for recording and the 8gb is just not enough. You have saved me a few euro's. It is Crucial RAM I am looking at buying. I can't understand the pricing of different RAM modules. They are all over the place.
