Microsoft Windows 11

Hi,

I can't understand if I can install 2x16GB of RAM at 3200Mhz on my HP 340S G7 notebook (9HQ31EA#ABZ) with I7-1065G7 processor and HP 86C8 U3E1 motherboard.

An 8GB at 3200Mhz bank (L06334-971) is installed from the factory.
The processor supports 32GB at 3200Mhz but from the specifications found here the maximum seems to be 16GB at 2666Mhz.

The indicated speed is incorrect as I have checked and the RAM is actually going at 3200Mhz and it is the stock one. Regarding the maximum quantity of 16GB I am in doubt whether it is another incorrect indication or a limitation of the motherboard.

From this discussion it seems it can be assumed that the maximum quantity is 32GB (different notebook but same motherboard).
Furthermore, using the  Crucial scanner a 2x16GB 3200Mhz RAM upgrade is offered, also visible here.

The Service Manual

Manual

indicates on p. 1

Memory Two SODIMM slots, not customer accessible or upgradeable
DDR4-2666 dual-channel support (DDR4-3200 bridge to 2666)

"bridge" means downclock and tells us HP will install DDR4-3200 modules but they will run at -2666 speed. Despite the statement that 16 gb is the maximum, we have seen that laptops with Intel Core processors 6th gen and higher with 2 RAM slots can universally run 2 x 16 gigs of the correct memory. It should be stock with OEM timings and not "performance" or gaming" memory. How have you determined your memory is running at 3200 speed?

Thank you for your answer.

Regarding the speed I've checked the task manager:

userbenchmarks:

and speccy:

It's running at 3200Mhz right?

I don't get what do you mean exaclty about the timing and which ones are the OEM (didn't fint in the manual or elsewhere)? If I respect Mhz and the voltage (1,2) I'm fine or also CL can be a problem?

If you can confirm that my memory is actually running at 3200 I was thinking about this RAM (2x16 3200 CL20), otherwise I was thinking about this one (2x16 2666 CL15).

Here is a source of guaranteed compatible memory. The max installed memory is 32 GB.

It indicates that the system should support 32GB, but among the options shown the maximum is 16GB (2x8)..

I am not jumping in here.

I just happened to be working on the thread and not realizing that @Huffer  was already here.

I found that Kingston Memory information and figured it would be a waste not to provide it as additional info.
