I would like to upgrade the RAM in my HP G62-460SX laptop from 3GB to 6GB OR 8GB. As per the product specification page, the maximum supported RAM is 4GB - https://support.hp.com/us-en/product/hp-g62-400-notebook-pc-series/4346237/model/5039293/document/c0...
But running dmidecode says it supports 8GB memory. The ouput is
# dmidecode 3.1 Getting SMBIOS data from sysfs. SMBIOS 2.6 present. Handle 0x001B, DMI type 16, 15 bytes Physical Memory Array Location: System Board Or Motherboard Use: System Memory Error Correction Type: None Maximum Capacity: 8 GB Error Information Handle: No Error Number Of Devices: 2
So before buying the RAM I just want to check if my laptop really supports RAM more than 4GB. Thanks in advance for any help

Hi,
Yes, it will support up to 8GB of DDR3 1066Mhz RAM.
You can see various configurations on page 1-1 of service manual:

Hope it helps,
David

Welcome to the HP Support Community @cevoh
That could be an error:
Your specs say your model " G62-460SX " will take 4GB max memory.
