Hi everyone!

I have a 2 year old laptop and it came with 4GB of RAM and 500GB HDD.  I recently replaced HDD with a 240 GB SSD and its performance is significantly increased (Thanks to HP community who told me how to do it ) and now i am thinking of increasing the ram to 8GB. In the task manager it shows 1 out of 2 slots used but when i opened the laptop at the time of HDD replacement i could not figure out where is the second RAM slot.  I had never worked on RAM slots in a laptop so i could not identify the second slot. i could clearly see the first ram slot and in youtube videos i see people putting RAM sticks directly above the previous stick. And is it possible that Task manager is showing me wrong details. Please help me confirm if i can add another 4GB RAM stick into my laptop and if so then is it mendatory that the new stick has to be of 4GB.

Please recommend a RAM stick that i should use.

Hi,

Your PC supports max 8GB of DDR3L 1600Mhz

There is one slot, so you will need to replace the 4GB module with an 8GB module. The Intel Core processors in that series will have two slots. Yours, a Pentium Processor has one slot.

Example:

On page 56 of service manual you can see the steps to replace RAM:

According to the Maintenance & Service guide for your notebook, 16 GB is the maximum supported installed memory.

Just adding a memory module is not necessarily going to work as expected, unless the added module is identical to the original module in all respects.

The best practice method of upgrading memory is to add memory in a pair of identical modules.

Here is the remove and replace video series. Click on  the memory link in the left column after allowing the video extension to run.
