Your Service Manual

Max memory according to the Manual is 12 gigs of DDR3L-1600 SO-DIMM, but it is widely known it will take 2 x 8 gigs for 16 gigs total.

Yours is an i7 model so it has 2 slots. Memory installation instructions are all the way to p. 116 and it is a gnarly job: you have to remove the whole motherboard so something that should only be attempted by a technician, really.

As for an SSD, there is no extra slot to add a small gumstick type disk as on current model laptops. The only way to have an SSD is to remove the hard drive and install a 2.5 inch SATA SSD which is the same size and shape as your hard drive. But it would be installed Instead Of, and not as an extra drive.

You could do a CD/DVD drive adapter for the mechanical drive and put a smaller SSD in the internal hard drive bay to have workable storage at the lowest cost.
