I'm trying to add a 4gb memory card to my notebook. I put it into the 2nd slot and it snaps in and is in place but when I turn notebook on it doesn't show. I think the ram module maybe broken? Any ideas?

Did you get guaranteed compatible RAM module with exact same configuration as mentioned in the manual?

Does it matter what brand? I'm not sure if I have the right one. I purchased a one and on the sticker it says  Samsung 4gb 1rx8 pc3l-12800s-11-11-b2. Is this one compatible?

Brand is not an issue. Samsung, Kingston, Hynix etc are good brands.

The configuration should be exactly as given in manual.

The one you noted is PC3L which is low voltage (1.35V). The one you need is DDR3 1600MHz PC3-12800 1.5V module.

Ok I have 2x4gb crucial ddr3l 1600 cards and I put them in and the laptop boots up like normal and only reads 4gb. Is there a way to check each slot to see if both work?
