So I have bought myself 2 Ram modules of 8GB 3200mt/s ram and installed it in my laptop. When I insert 1 stick task manager recognises it as 3200mhz but when i put the second stick in the speed drops to 2667. both sticks are identical, and both read as 3200mhz when inserted individually.

@AdamisPrime, Welcome to the HP Support Community.
Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding the HP Pavilion Gaming 15-dk2000 Laptop PC (2P1Z8AV).
We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution. We hope our assistance has been helpful!
When using two RAM modules in your HP Pavilion Gaming 15-dk2000 Laptop, you may notice that the speed drops from the expected 3200MHz to 2667MHz when both are installed together. This common occurrence can be attributed to several factors:
-
Motherboard Limitations: The motherboard in your HP Pavilion Gaming 15-dk2000 may not support the full 3200MHz speed when both RAM slots are populated or may require specific configurations to achieve full speed.
-
BIOS Settings: Sometimes, the BIOS settings may default to a lower speed for the dual-channel RAM configuration. Ensuring the BIOS is updated to the latest version can sometimes resolve this issue.
-
Memory Compatibility and Specifications: The system might be adjusting the RAM speed to match the maximum that the motherboard or processor can handle when multiple modules are installed.
Steps to Troubleshoot and Resolve the Issue
- Check the System Specifications:
-
Verify the maximum RAM speed your laptop's motherboard and processor can support, especially with both slots populated.
-
Update BIOS:
-
Check for any available BIOS updates for your HP Pavilion Gaming 15-dk2000 and apply them. Manufacturers often release updates to improve hardware compatibility and performance.
-
XMP Profiles:
-
If your laptop BIOS supports XMP (Extreme Memory Profile), make sure it's enabled. XMP can automatically adjust the RAM settings to run at the advertised speed.
I hope this helps!
Take care and have an amazing day!
