I am using an HP probook 640 g1 with 4 gb ram. Can I add 8 gb to the second slot to make total 12 gb ram ? If possible does it affect the performance?

Hi:

 

Yes, you can add an 8 GB memory chip to the 4 GB chip.

 

I would say it would help the performance considerably.

Should i need to use same brand ram ?

You shouldn't have to.

 

They sell this compatible memory part number in India...
