I want to upgrade from 16GB to 64GB of RAM. I purchased 2 32 GB modules of Crucial DDR5 SODIMM #CT32G56C46S5 and installed it. The computer showed the "unsupported Memory" message on power up. I reinstalled the original 16GB RAM and the same message appeared on power up. I had to power it up several times before it booted again with the original 16GB. I did not try the 64GB again. I called HP support and the technician said my system will only support 16GB which I thought had to be wrong. I found an article that said to find the max your system can support you can run a cmd in Powershell "Get-CimInstance Win32_PhysicalMemoryArray" which I ran and it shows that my system can support 134217728KB which is 128GB, so the Technician was incorrect. Does anyone know why I get the "unsupported memory" on power up and if restarting it several times should clear it?

Hello ScottDy.

I have almost Ø knowledge of HP's Desktop systems, but I think that I've found out what's the matter with the upgrade. First of all, let me clear up the confusion. Crucial has a page with supported modules for the general model series and then it has pages for every individual model. In this case, for some reason, the general category showed DDR4 as compatible (and on some of the individual models) but your specific model shows the correct DDR5 RAM. Normally you would see all of them having the same compatible modules. This is a mistake by Crucial (in a long line of mistakes) and Erico neglected to notice it right away:

Crucial (all series) DDR4

Crucial Envy (34-c1075t) DDR5

Now for the problem with the upgrade. In my country there's an expression where someone has both "the beard and the beard comb". In this case that's HP, and what it decides is compatible with its systems and the BIOS is up to them -and only them. Apparently everyone that's tried to upgrade these machines with Crucial, Corsair and other brands of RAM modules has hit a brick wall. To my knowledge, there's only one brand and one type of module that seems to work OK, and erico EXPERT Level 18 found the thread that reported it: https://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Desktop-Hardware-and-Upgrade-Questions/Atrocious-service/td-p/9013025

Hi @ScottDy

Exactly, you have the Angel motherboard that supports 128 GB.  Then it is to know what memory I buy, if I buy gaming memory with XMP profile the problem is probably that, I should buy single voltage memory. If this is not the case, make use of the warranty.

I don't know how you chose those particular Crucial DDR5 SODIMM #CT32G56C46S5 modules, but those are not the modules that Crucial memory recommends for your PC.

CT2K32G4SFD832A is the correct module part number.

See this web document at Crucial memory where they list compatible memory for your PC's model series.

Contact Crucial and ask for an RMA. I do hope that you bought them directly from Crucial Memory.

Otherwise, contact the vendor you purchased them from.

@erico  This is one of the rare cases where Crucial doesn't know what it's talking about. resistencia posted the motherboard's specs right above. These are DDR5 systems.

Gotcha. Thanks!

I agree with it being rare.

MY Motherboard does appear to be an Angel as stated although it is not (at least not as far as I can tell) a 34-c1001na, its a c1075t. On the Crucial website it does show this model under "Envy all in one" with "Envy 34-c1075t all in one" as the only option. as such, it does show the 32GB module that I purchased as a compatible RAM

Erico, I'm afraid that's incorrect. My memory is DDR5, not DDR4.

Hi @ScottDy

Both models use Angel motherboards, which is the series they belong to.

Resistencia, yes I understand that but the fact still remains that my system uses DDR5 not DDR4 and as I'm sure you know, they are not interchangeable so that information does not address my question. Reading your reply, I'm afraid I don't quite get the point you were trying to make. The Crucial website showed the memory module I purchased as a compatible module for my system. I installed it and it shows as "unsupported memory". I was asking for help with possible knowledge/experience with why this is occurring and if it may be a system quirk or an actual incompatibility issue. Crucial tech support is pretty much useless as the Customer Service people can't even find my system without me guiding them to it and even then they have been no help. HP support has been no better I'm afraid.
