I have a very weird issue with win7 64 bit and win10 64 bit
I have installed 6gb of ram(4+2) but I can see from Windows that only 3.44gb are usable.
I tried also to left the 2gb ram only inside the notebook and it was correctly seen from Windows (even if also in this case windows report that only 1.66gb of 2gb are usable).
I tried the following method that in similar case was succesfull:
-update bios(no memory remap settings present)
-msconfig (unchecking the max memory)
-re-seat the ram swapping slot.
-re-nstalling windows
Please consider that:
-on bios and cpuz it's reported 6gb installed
-on windows (games and task manager) are reported 3.44gb
-memtest from live usb pen 3.44gb
My configuration is:
Hp pavillion 17 f003nl
Dual gpu(amd r5 and amd r7 m260)
Cpu Amd a8 6410 2.0ghz Quad-Core
Win7 64bit ultimate edition
I really do not understand what is happening..
Do you have some ideas?
Thanks in advance

Hi
Sometimes RAM is allocated to Graphics.
I have 8 Gb, 1 for Graphics and 7 (6.94) for me.
Piriform Speccy shows...
Physical Memory
Memory Usage 48 %
Total Physical 6.94 GB
Available Physical 3.57 GB
Total Virtual 14 GB
Available Virtual 9.99 GB
######
ATI AMD Radeon(TM) R4 Graphics

Hi
I don't know.
I assume it is a 64 bit system as you say, and that the RAM modules are a match to run as a pair.
Because
""I have installed 6gb of ram(4+2) but I can see from Windows that only 3.44gb are usable.
I tried also to left the 2gb ram only inside the notebook and it was correctly seen from Windows (even if also in this case windows report that only 1.66gb of 2gb are usable).

Starting with 6 Gb; 4 Gig less your 512 Mb is 3.44 (your 2 Gb is not being addressed).
2 Gb less your 512 Mb is 1.66 and seems logical.
So maybe you do not have a matching pair of usable RAM modules.

Hi Cf4, thank you for your answer
The fact is that the notebook was selled by HP in this configuration (4+2 gb of ram), they are the origanl ram installed.
Another strange thing is that using tools like cpuz or hwinfo, ram are seen as single-channel.
I do not understand what is happening..

Hi CF4, your argument make sense, i tried to leave only 4gb ram and i have the same behaviour as i put all 6gb of ram (3.44gb avaiable), so since 512mb are reserved to gpu, the 2gb are not seen.
The fact is that i tried also to leave inside only the 2gb of ram and it workeed, so where is the issue?2gb are not faulty or it' some compatibiliy issue between the 2 dimms?
Thanks in advance

Hi cf4, i have un update on the issue.
If i leave the 4gb dimm , i have 1.7gb usable ram (2.3gb hw reserved)
If i put 2gbx2 dimm, i have 3.44 usable ram(0.56gb hw reserved)
What will happens if i put 4gbx2 dimms? 😄
this is very strange issue i give up and thrown the pc out of the window
