OMEN Laptop - 17t
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

The USB 3 port disconnects without any warning. USB 2 ports all work fine. No rhyme or reason to it. Same drive connected. Have changed the advanced power settings to disable-USB suspend, BIOS up to date. Log out then Log on does not restore, restart works (until the USB 3 decides to stop again). I have several USB 3 drives, use portable apps alot and have tested all drives numerous times. Again, when the USB 3 port stops working I can plug into the USB 2 ports and everything works fine.

Hi @Dan_L

Welcome to the HP Forums!

Thank you for posting your query in this forum, it's a great place to find answers.

I reviewed your post and I understand that the USB devices are getting disconnected randomly.

Don’t worry, I’d love to help!

In order that I may provide you with an accurate solution, I will need a few more details.

  • When was the last time the computer was working fine?
  • Have you made any software or hardware changes on the computer?
  • Have you performed any troubleshooting steps before posting?

There are two possible causes for the USB devices to get disconnected.

A. Incorrect USB drivers may be installed on your computer.
B. Host controller hardware malfunction may be a possibility.

Meanwhile, I recommend you to update the bios and the chipset drivers from the below link.
