I am trying to install the 7260 card in an old machine - HP DV7-4083cl - and hitting the 702 error. Am I completely out of luck?

It looks like F.29 is the latest bios update from 2011 but there are older ones available.

Yes unfortunately, you are completely out of luck.

 

The first dv7-xxxx notebook that doesn't have a BIOS whitelist is the dv7-7xxx model series.

 

Most likely the only wifi adapter that will work is the one in there now.

 

Sometimes even the ones listed in the service manual won't work.
