Hello Paul,
Thanks for your info/reply.
I was assuming the cost of a W10 product key would be a lesser expense in this upgrade/update. Now you give me reason to pause and reconsider. The fact that the drivers are not available here is also a concern. The jump to W11 was to be done at a later date. I'm primarily interested in getting a more current browser.
The hardware upgrade wasn't too much of a concern except when I saw how this thing had to be gutted like a fish, just to get to the memory. I'm not sure how the existing memory is configured. I may not be able to utilize it to upgrade to 16M. I'm hesitant to do any surgery unless I go all the way. Problem is, this laptop does need a new CMOS battery.
I guess I should run real numbers and see what makes sense. As much as I dislike discarding old but working things it may make more sense to take advantage of the lingering cyber Monday deals and get a shiny new laptop with Win11 pre-installed.
Thanks again for your info. I'll post again if I have any more questions.
Regards,
Tom Q

You're very welcome, Tom.
Have you downloaded Microsoft Edge for Windows 8.1?
You used to be able to download it from the link below.
Now it just indicates 'Download for Windows,' so I hope it still works for W8.1 and W7 like it used to.
Download Microsoft Edge: Windows, macOS, iOS & Android
That should solve the outdated browser issue.
