Hey there. I use an HP Omen 17 Gaming laptop, and recently my internet card has been limited to a link speed of 100mbps when the card is a Realtek GBe Family controller card. I have tried all of the common and slightly uncommon software fixes, and I was wondering if anyone has something new I could try, or how I can replace the card entirely.
List of things I have already tried:
Speed & Duplex: Set to “Auto-Negotiation”.
Flow Control: Enable (if available).
Jumbo Frame: Try to enable this option if it is available (this usually improves performance).
Update BIOS
Check network cables and ports -- all are functioning, (I have directly connected to the same wire, different cat 5 wires, and directly to the modem with different devices)
Check the router settings -- other devices get 1000mbps
Try Different Driver Versions -- i have updated and downdated my drivers.
The flush commands:
netsh int ip reset
netsh winsock reset
ipconfig /flushdns
ipconfig /release
ipconfig /renew
Check the power management settings
Checked for malware -- 2 different scanner applications (deep scanned)
configured the card for specific params:
Auto Disable GB is off
Energy-efficient Ethernet is off
Gigabit Lite is off
Green ethernet is off
Power power-saving mode is off
speed and duplex (I will explain later on)
checked for updates
USB ethernet also is limited to 100mbps through link speed
So with my speed and duplex settings, I can set them, but then it does something odd. I have set the speed and duplex settings to auto-negotiate but nothing happens. I have manually set it to 1GBps and the weird thing is that when I press accept, I look at the link speed value in the settings application, and it changes to 1000 for 5 seconds, where it then promptly returns to 100 Mbps after.
That is everything I have tried. I have contacted Microsoft with the same question and got directed here.
