My OS crashed and I updated it from Windows 10 to Windows 11 then my shift keys on the keyboard became intermittent, first in turns as left would work while right is off and vice versa and now both go off and sometime are available.

I cant seem to get any windows 11 drivers for my HP Spectre 360 model 13-ae11dx from the HP website and open source drivers have not helped.

Hi @CaptDodd,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

To resolve the issue with the intermittent shift keys on your HP Spectre 360 model 13-ae11dx after updating to Windows 11, you can try the following steps,

Update Keyboard Drivers

Device Manager:

  • Press Win + X and select Device Manager.
  • Expand the "Keyboards" section.
  • Right-click on your keyboard device and select Update driver.
  • Choose Search automatically for updated driver software.

HP Support Assistant:

  • Download and install HP Support Assistant if you don't have it already.
  • Use it to check for any available updates for your laptop.

Run the Keyboard Troubleshooter

  1. Settings:
    • Open Settings by pressing Win + I.
    • Go to System > Troubleshoot > Other troubleshooters.
    • Find and run the Keyboard troubleshooter.

Check for Windows Updates

  1. Settings:
    • Open Settings by pressing Win + I.
    • Go to Windows Update and click Check for updates.
    • Install any available updates.

Reset Keyboard Settings

  1. Control Panel:
    • Open Control Panel by searching for it in the start menu.
    • Go to Ease of Access > Ease of Access Center > Make the keyboard easier to use.
    • Ensure that none of the keyboard-related options are checked (e.g., Sticky Keys, Filter Keys, Toggle Keys).

Perform a Clean Boot

  1. System Configuration:
    • Press Win + R, type msconfig, and press Enter.
    • Go to the Services tab and check Hide all Microsoft services, then click Disable all.
    • Go to the Startup tab and click Open Task Manager.
    • Disable all startup items.
    • Restart your computer.

Reinstall Keyboard Driver

  1. Device Manager:
    • Press Win + X and select Device Manager.
    • Expand the "Keyboards" section.
    • Right-click on your keyboard device and select Uninstall device.
    • Restart your computer to allow Windows to reinstall the keyboard driver.

System Restore

If the problem started after a recent update, you can try performing a system restore to revert to a point where the keyboard was functioning correctly.

  1. System Restore:
    • Press Win + R, type rstrui, and press Enter.
    • Follow the prompts to restore your system to an earlier point.

Check for BIOS/UEFI Updates

Ensure your BIOS/UEFI is up to date, as sometimes these updates can resolve hardware compatibility issues.

  1. HP BIOS/UEFI Update:
    • Visit the HP support page for your model.
    • Check for any available BIOS/UEFI updates and follow the instructions to install them.

If these steps do not resolve the issue, you might need to consider downgrading back to Windows 10 if the shift key functionality is critical and cannot be resolved through the above steps.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
