Hi,
I am able to work with my laptop on batteries a quite limited time (max 4-5 hours, very low compared to what HP promises for Dragonfly). The laptop is 2 yrs old, and the battery only 1.5 yrs old.
Here is the information obtained from a battery check. My questions:
- Why is the "remaining capacity" lower than the "full charge capacity" if the computer is 100% charged?
- The "full charge capacity" seems ok after 1.5 yrs (10% loss). But is it normal to have a so low "remaining capacity"?
Thanks in advance!
ML

Hello ML2021,
The explanation is as follows:
When you want to preserve your battery health for a longer time, you do not charge it to 100%, but up to about 80% of its full charge capacity. On Android mobile phones, for example, you have a setting to charge the battery only up to 80%.
The same applies here. The corresponding setting is in the BIOS of your machine, under Advanced/Built-in Device Options/Battery Health Manager. In your case, this is most likely set to "Maximize my battery health". Accordingly, the machine only charges the battery to about 80% of its full charge capacity.
Now go to your BIOS and check if this is the case. Then change it to "Maximize battery duration" (by which they most likely mean the duration of keeping the laptop running) and observe the battery charging up to its full capacity.
There is also a setting called "Let HP manage my battery charging", What they mean about this is a question, ask them or do some research.
If you do find out what this "Let HP manage..." means, kindly report back here, so we'll know as well.
Cheers:
UB
