Hi,

I would like to replace the HDD that came with my computer, with a new SSD, and i want to know how to do it preserving the OS and the recovery image that came with my computer.

Thanks in advance.

Best regards.

Rui

To do this, two things would need to be true:

First, the SSD must be the same capacity as the HDD.  This is because any HP Recovery function expects the replacement drive to be nearly the same size as the original.  So, if you replace the HDD with a smaller SDD, then the Recovery function simply will not work and there would be no point in copying the Recovery partition to the SSD.

Second, you need to CLONE the HDD to the SDD.  Here is information on how to do that:

1) Download and install Macrium Reflect (MR) from here: https://www.macrium.com/reflectfree
2) Connect the new drive to the PC using a USB-to-SSD drive adapter (like the one illustrated below)
3) Follow the instructions in this link: http://knowledgebase.macrium.com/display/KNOW/Cloning+a+disk
4) Shutdown the PC when done
5) Swap the drives and reboot the PC.

You should boot from the new drive without any problems.

Typical USB-to-SSD adapter:

NOTE: If your SSD is an M.2 SSD, then you will have to also get a second SATA SSD to M.2 SSD adapter.

Good Luck

Thank you for your answer.

I will buy a Sata SSD, so i wont need an adapter, and i guess it would be more easily fit...

Is there any guide on how to disassemble my Pavilion 24-B101np All-In-One?
