HP Spectre x360 - 13-ae013dx
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I have a Spectre X360 13" manufactured in 2018. The battery has swelled to the point of distorting the case and needs to be replaced. Writing to HP for information on where I can purchase an HP replacement was a waste of time - they sent me a bunch of generic support links and closed my case.

This is against the background of having purchased a 3 Year Care Pack and then not realizing I could have had that refunded since it was unused - except there is a 90 day window and then HP won't refund any more.

Anyone have any information on where one can buy an authentic HP CP03XL battery for this machine.

I also wanted to find out about getting replacements for the rubber strips which have to be removed from the machine to change the battery since HP won't talk to me about those either without paying them for support.

Any info appreciated.

According to maintenance and service manual (http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c05811755.pdf), your laptop's battery spare part number is 929072-855, which unfortunately doesn't come up when you search for it on (https://parts.hp.com/); however, the rubber feet (listed below by laptop color) do pull back a purchasable product on parts.hp.com/

You may be able to get more support from HP if you give the store team the battery part number you're trying to purchase, not really sure, having my own struggles with getting the right replacement battery for an HP laptop as well.

Battery (3-cell, 60-WHr, 5.275-AHr, Li-ion) spare part number: 929072-855

  • In natural silver finish 942847-001
  • In pale rose gold finish L07274-001

3 different colored rubber strips listed on p. 21. I'm going to assume you have "natural silver" but the other choices are listed there:

In natural silver finish  942847-001

Found the rubber strips on ebay canada as well but they want like $70 for them which I will not recommend. If you remove the strips carefully they can be reused. Try not to stretch them out. I linked you to a genuine battery from China. In this case, I would have no problem buying a "compatible" 3rd party battery from a high rated amazon seller but I frankly get a bit tired of debating the merits of various batteries with folks. Hence "genuine" only. Good luck.

Thanks for the reply - my system is Dark Ash which makes the strips a little harder to find. I have had them off already and wish I'd realized they could stretch because I'd have removed them by prying up rather than pulling.

I'm with you on the original battery - I got a "genuine replacement" from Amazon which didn't even match up with the mounting screw points and was never detected by the computer. It's irritating on a premium notebook that HP doesn't seem to have any interest in keeping these parts available when it's less than four years from manufacture.

Thanks - I gave them the battery part number when I opened the support case - in fact mine is 929066-421.

Appreciate the part numbers for the rubber strips, but when I go to parts.hp.com (I'm in Canada) I get "Part is not orderable, HP Part Resellers may help click here" ...

Oh, well.

929066-421 is interchangeable with the other number I gave. Both numbers are listed on that eBay sale I linked. Not sure what to tell you on the rubber strips. They can be very hard to locate as you are seeing. Might have to take one of the other colors just to have some strips. HP just does not seem to want to be a battery store. They make so many more models than any other computer maker the logistics of stocking replacement parts apparently are not workable and drives up the price they have to charge so they just let the aftermarket handle it. Not saying I am happy with it just an observation after 20 years.
