Hi, i need to replace the DVD drive in my HP Notebook - 15-ac005na (ENERGY STAR) however I notice that there are 2 "form factors" 9.5mm and 12.7mm does anyone know which one fits the above laptop?

Hi:
The service manual doesn't indicate the form factor, but it does have the part number in chapter, 3 on page 26.
For use in HP Notebook models HP part # 813952-001

What I recommend you do is to go on eBay UK and buy a used but tested and working drive by searching by that HP part number.
It is used across various HP notebook series, not just yours.
It will be a whole lot cheaper than buying new. I checked the HP parts store in the UK, and they don't sell that part anymore.

Paul
Thank you very much for your help, however after reading through the links you posted and the fact I can only find either a recertified or new replacement in the USA the shipping price pretty much kills it dead and given that I hardly use the DVD and they are by design dust magnets destined to fail, I think I am going to opt to buy one of the aftermarket HD caddies that fit the same slot and put in a second hard drive for media files.

You're very welcome.
I see used but tested and working models for less. Like this one for example...
