M5L59EA

I have a HP Notebook model M5L59EA (No model name shown anywhere!), the LCD panel has failed and the official spare part listed in the maintenance guide is no longer manufactured according to HP Parts Picker.

So I am looking for a compatible LCD panel (15.6", 30pin LVDS, LED backlight, mounting ears top and bottom).  This raises two technical questions about how the HP BIOS handles this:

1. Does the HP BIOS for this model require specific model numbers (LCD Whitelisting)?

2. Does the HP BIOS for this model allow using a higher resolution LCD Panel instead of the original1366x768 panel?

P.S. The forum posting form has a broken link for "How do I find my product name and number".

Installing the third party LCD (exact model suggested by HP parts specialist based on lookup of serial number in some secret database) worked fine.  The LCD that worked is CoreParts model MSC156H30-080M-2 .

Replacement mounting screws were ordered from laptopscrewsdirect.com based on the size stated in the Maintenance guide (PM2.0x2.4) and measuring the original screws with calipers (PM2.0x3).

Not much of an answer there.

Due to the lack of answers since I asked, I have now ordered an apparent equivalent of the original Samsung LTN156AT39-H01 (HP part no 813959-001) and will test it tomorrow as it arrives.  As these clones are apparently still in production (unlike the Samsung branded ones), it would have made sense for HP to offer (or at least suggest) them when searching for 813959-001 in the parts picker.

I still don't know if the HP BIOS restricts the choice of LCD panels in either way that I asked in my original post.

I also find that HP has apparently marked some other routinely replaced parts for this laptop model as "sold out" or "unavailable", even though it is still less than 10 years old.

P.S.

I work as an IT professional and have the skills and tools to repair laptops.
