Hello,
I would like to upgrade my current SSD: "SanDisk SD8SNAT-128G-1006" to 1TB of storage. I want to replace it with the:
Samsung 980 1 TB - Solid state drive.
I was wondering if this SSD is compatible with the motherboard of my laptop and if the SSD key type is also compatible with the slot on my motherboard.
Thanks in advance.

Its compatible and the key type will fit. However, some Samsung 980s are PCIe 4th generation and the motherboard on your laptop uses 3rd gen PCIe. So the 980 4th gen will work but will not achieve its theoretical max speed. If the 970 is cheaper, you will get just much performance out of a 970. There is a version of the 980 that is third gen and that one will also work fine.

Thanks for your reply.
I just have one last question. My current SSD contains the windows 10 OS. I would like to do a complete clean install, so I don't need my old files. Can I then just remove the old one, and boot up my laptop with the freshly installed SSD and insert an USB with the windows 10 installation on it? If so, does windows recognise the windows 10 key by my motherboard? or does this mean that I need a new windows 10 key.

You can do exactly what you ask. The Windows 10 credentials are stored in the BIOS chip on the motherboard and also to some extent on Microsoft servers but you need no Key Code or credentials. If the installer asks for a Key Code just click skip and go forward.
If this is the info you needed please accept as solution.
