Hello,
My laptop model is: HP Pavillion g6-2304sf.
I am receiving the 24 number Short DST Check failed code, meaning I need to replace my hard drive. However, I have scoured both Amazon UK and Amazon FR (France) and there is no specific drive referenced for my model laptop. Therefore, I am completely lost.
I have seen mentioned here (in HP forums) links to "these type drives" on Amazon. 'Types' is too vague to select the (a) correct drive.
I have also read here that I can upgrade my current drive to '750Gb' (as opposed to the current 500Gb)...'7200 tr/min' (as opposed to the current 5200tr/min) and finally, '16 RAM' (as opposed to the current 8 RAM).
Therefore, please advise, I have found the following hard drive (see link below) on Amazon.fr (France, disregard the French, just reference the specs and model code/number) and it meets the specs I want. Can this drive be used to replace the one I need to replace? Will it work on a pc bought in France (I don't see why that should matter but I have seen one commentary re the product which mentioned that a separate "piece" needs to be attached so that it will work?!). If this drive (link following) will not serve as substitute please direct me SPECIFICALLY to a drive that will, either on Amazon UK or Amazon FR (France), particularly (if possible) with the same upgrade specs I referenced earlier. It will be of no help to me to have to select from these "type" drives. The codes on those drives listed mean nothing to me. Again, please be VERY specific, I am unable to choose between models, they all 'look' the same! 🙂
Thank you in advance,
RedmoonWolf

Here's a video showing RAM and hard drive access:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yYbeBffNjyg
Service Manual
Hard drive:
Supports 6.35 cm (2.5 in) hard drives in 9.5 mm (.37 in) and 7.0 mm (.28 in) thicknesses Supports HP 3D Drive Guard Customer-accessible Serial ATA (SATA)
Memory:
8 gigs is the maximum memory that can be installed per the Manual. 16 might work but I hesitate to recommend it.
Hard drive:
The above is just one example but is a good price for a good drive so would fill your needs nicely. The one you linked from the French site would also work...pretty much the same drive (750 gb vs. 1000 gb) but unless my currency conversion math is off the UK one is a bit cheaper.
Post back with any more questions.

Hello Provost,
I have read your reply and had a look at the product you recommended on ebay. I have never purchased from ebay, readig the product's condition/packaging, etc. would you still recommended it? I am a bit rectulant there, especially considering there are 'no returns'. I would prefer to purchase from Amazon (UK or FR), if possible. Otherwise I may end up stuck with a malfunctiong disc which I cannot return.
I see as well that you have procvided links as to how to change the disc. Thank you for that, I am confident I can do it.
Thank you for such a quick, precise and detailed response.
Thanks again,
RedmoonWolf
(Edit: purchased near identical (1TB) from Amazon.uk today, tks)
