Hi Paul

Well, my order with Ebuyer was cancelled yesterday as there was no signs of movement with it. I asked for an update and date it would be sent but I was met with silence. I checked on Overclockers and they said they had them in stock so I bought one there. Fingers crossed 🤞but they say it'll be here friday. I decided to go the whole hog and upgrade my SODIMM. It has 16GB (2x8) and I purchased DDR4-3200 SODIMM 32GB (2x16) which my latop should take according to Powershell.IMG20250716152318.jpg

Crucial also confirmed it should work fine. I emailed them because it doesn't come up as an offering on the scan but it does when you input the laptop details manually. So, if I'm lucky, I'll be trying to get it done at the weekend. I still have to sort out how I'm going to do the drive swap and install all the OS etc.... It's always been a problem when I've upgraded my OS. It wants the original license and then all the other update ones required  to upgrade it to where it has gotten to. At least that was my previous and last experience with Windows upgrades. They don't make it easy but in fairness, whenever I contacted Microsoft Windows, they've been great and very helpful. Anyway, as soon as I get it done or if I need any advice, I'll be back in touch. Best wishes, Dave

Hi Paul

Well, I finally got all my bits together. So, before I  attack my laptop with an aggressive screwdriver, I thought I would take a step back and think if I can pre-empt any problems. I believe I mentioned my past difficulties with clean installs  of upgraded Windows OS before. Well, from years ago, I remembered a software called Belarc Advisor. I did a quick search and found they are still going strong and still free for home and personal use. I installed it and got a whole plethora of info on my laptop, icluding all my Windows OS versions and license keys for each. I started on WIn 10 Home then 11 home and then 11 pro. If you haven't used it or seen it, I highly recommend it. So, now I  can do a clean install should I need to. My next step is to clone my drive and also make a copy of all my files and software. I think I may be paranoid but I've been here before and had some terrible problems. If memory serves me correct, I once tried to install my files using back-up from an external HDD but the clean install wouldn't recognise it. If you have any thoughts on this side of things, I'd love to hear them before I take the back off my laptop. As always, thanks for all the help you have given and listening to me waffle on thinking outloud, so to speak. Cheers!

Hi:

Yes, I have used Belarc Advisor many times and I keep the installation file handy to install on any PC when I need some product key info.

I believe I had advised you to copy your user profile folders to a portable hard drive and if you have to resort to clean installing Windows, just copy the user profile folders to your new user profile and let them overwrite the empty folders.

Good luck with your upgrade project.

Paul
