HP 15-bs161sa
Microsoft Windows 10 (32-bit)

I purchased the above laptop from PC world in January 2018.  The bottom outer case is damaged.  The damaged was my fault and it isn`t covered under warranty.   The damage is such that the insides are exposed so cannot continue to use it.

I have searched the HP parts website with no success.   I have tried ringing HP sales & technical none of whom have helped.

PC World  cannot help. Their `know how` website will only carry out the repair and not supply me with the part.  This would be not be cost effective.  The partmaster website does not even recognise the product.

I have phoned a couple of laptop repair places who tell me the part is `not available`.

I cannot believe I will have to throw away a £400 new laptop???

I cannot find the part number & whilst my laptop is blue I would be happy to replace it with a case of a different colour.

From the specs it appears you model has no DVD drive, right? Then this is the part from page 22 of the Service Manual:

Marine blue 924912-001

Manual

I also gather you are in the UK? HP is out of stock in the UK but if you click the link you get a list of resellers who might be able to help.

Here is a silver one on UK eBay:

https://www.ebay.com/itm/HP-15-BS-15-BW-Laptop-Bottom-Base-Chassis-Plastic-Cover-Silver-924909-001/1...

That price is pretty fair. This is a pretty big task. Replacing the bottom enclosure requires that you essentially field strip (completely disassemble) the laptop piece by piece and reassemble in the new chassis.

Post back with any other questions and please accept as solution if this is the answer you needed.

thank you for your reply.

The outer actually comes off very easily, after unscrewing several screws as none of the workings are attached.  I do not have a DVD drive.

The one listed on ebay is just down the road!  it does however state it is part number 924009 and not 924912.  I assume there is a difference?

Yes. blue vs. silver. SO you just need the pull off bottom cover not the whole base enclosure? Look at the exploded diagram in the Manual and let's be sure this is actually the part you need or maybe you can tell from the picture?

The part is the correct one as you mention in your earlier message - thank you.

I have already removed the case which has parts 23 onwards attached.  All other parts are attached to the top (keyboard) casing.

I have ordered a grey one off ebay - thanks for pointing me in this direction.
