Check my previous message please.

I wouldn't call 4W "insane" but it could definitely be better.

Under Linux I've shrunk it down to 0.4W.

How did you fix this issue in Linux? What idle power draw do you have in Linux after the fix?

I'm also wondering what country you're in? Asking in case that may affect whether I can get business support for the Elitebook. On their website, it wants me to register as a business to get access to their commercial support.

Wow, 0.4w CPU package power in Linux is very impressive. What's the actual discharge rate? It sounds like you would have incredible battery life under Linux then.

I've seen some reports of the same processor drawing 2.5w at idle in Windows, so 4w means 2 hours less battery life, which is something I find hard to accept given this is a premium notebook.

Unrelated question: does S3 sleep state work for you in Linux?

HP US business support hotline is available for all customers of HP business laptops regardless of where you bought it or where you are. You can call them absolutely for free via Skype if your English is good enough which I presume is.

Under Linux sudo ryzenadj --power-saving (can be downloaded here) will get the issue sorted out. You will have to rerun the command on resume as well because the CPU registers it changes get reset after suspend/resume. This command is incompatible with Secure Boot unfortunately. If you have it enabled, you'll have to disable it. Sometimes I totally hate Linux.

This utility can also change other power related parameters including setting TDP values. I've switched from default 54/28W (max fast boost/sustained power consumption) to 30/20W and now I basically have the Ryzen 7 7840U instead which allows the laptop to be almost completely silent even under load.

I don't know how to check the discharge rate and then it will be different depending on other factors such as display brightness or WiFi activity. Also I've noticed that 802.11ac 5GHz/6GHz WiFi with 80Hz/160Hz wide channels is a lot more power hungry than 802.11n even when it's idle. Actually "idle" when applied to WiFi is a bit of misnomer. For some reasons WiFi always exchanges data to keep the connection alive ("beacon frames" or something like that, I'm not a wireless guru).

I also don't know how to check S3 sleep states. The laptop suspends and resumes just fine. While being suspended it draws around 1W per hour which is totally acceptable.

Thanks for the tip.

I tried the command in Windows, but it doesn't seem to have had any effect. Perhaps the fix only works in Linux.

I'll try to disable more security settings to see if that helps, I already have secure boot disabled.

1w per hour is definitely acceptable, so I wouldn't worry about it then.

Hello, here is a problem.

For other devices with 7840hs such as zbook power g10 A, there has been new bios that solve this problem. But for elitebook 845 G10, not only there is no new bios, but all the bios version is absent in the website. I have not bought 845 for I now the problem from you and willing to buy one after yhe bug is fixed, could you help me to ask the support team about this?

I have zbook power g10 A. It can boost to 5.1GHz with new BIOS. Hp has fixed it, but they do not write it on the website.

What's your CPU package power and discharge rate before and after the latest bios update for your Zbook Power G10A at idle? If you run `powercfg /energy` in Windows, no more errors about ASPM being disabled after the update?

HP Recommended

1. I do not want to flash back BIOS to find it out. But now I have 1.x watts when idle but up to 5-7 watts when I am doing some little things.

2. ASPM erorr is present, but it is said to be an Known Issue. I do not know if it is a bug or just mean to do so.

3. I use Linux too when I am not on gaming, and tlp does well. So I do not know discharging rate on Windows. But according to some review of zbook power g10 a and eltiebook 845 g10, it seems that the battery time is fine,

4. Please talk about the missing BIOS of eltebook 865 g10 on website if you talk to the supports. Thanks a lot.
