Hello,
The SD Card reader in my PC stopped working. It seems like the PC doesn't even know it's there.
I tried the SD card in a different computer and it regognizes it, so it's not a card issue.
I tried uninstalling USB drivers and reinstalling, with no luck.
I tried downloading new Realtek software and installing it but it still doesn't do anything when I instert an SD card.
The card reader was working fine a few weeks ago the last time I used it, so I assume either a Windows 10 update knocked it out, or antivirus software thought it was malicious and uninstalled it?
How do I go about identifying the card reader and reinstalling drivers or software for it?
Thanks,
Ian

Welcome to HP forums, I see that SD card reader is not working.
Go into device manager and uninstall the card reader, it should be listed as IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers.
This will uninstall and reinstall the driver for the card reader.
-
Open Device Manager (Hold Windows + X key and select device manager)
-
Follow the instructions in the preceding procedure to uninstall the device.
-
If you are prompted to restart the computer, follow these steps:
- Plug in the device and then restart the computer. The device will be detected and reinstalled after Windows restarts.
- Follow any instructions on-screen to complete the installation.
-
If you are not prompted to restart the computer, follow these steps:
- In Device Manager, in the Action menu, click Scan for hardware changes.
Scan for hardware changes will not reinstall a Plug and Play device if a driver is already installed on the computer. If the device has not been uninstalled, Scan for hardware changes will not detect the connection of the device as a change. You must uninstall a Plug and Play device for Windows to start installation when you connect the device again.
Let me know how it goes.
To thank me for my efforts to help you, please mark my post as an accepted solution so that it benefits several others.
Cheers.

For some reason the Realtek card reader seems to be showing up again. I'm glad I checked before uninstalling anything, as I think I would have uninstalled the hard drive drivers.
Is that the only thing listed under IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers?
