What is your HP Pavilion notebook ?   Please use the following instructions for find out the model/product of your machine:

Normally nearly all laptops now have SD (or micro SD) card slot.

That is the product name. HP Pavillion Note Book.

 

I found that info by clicking fn then ESC.

 

There seems to be a larger slot but it's to big for the SD card. So, not sure if I need some sort of adaptor?

This won't help at all. Please look ai its label at its bottom OR using HP Support Assistant to give a simila result

It has card slot on the right hand side:

This slot supports standard size SD/SDHC/SDXC cards.
