I recently bought an SD card that works on other HP devices, but it doesn't work on mine or my sister's HP ProBook.

Depending on how old your probook is, there might be some larger SD cards that it cannot read.

Some SD cards can have partitions unreadable by some PCs due to incompatible partition tables (like GPT vs. MBR), different file systems (ext4, HFS+), or hidden/encrypted partitions set up on other devices (like Android or cameras) that Windows doesn't natively support without extra software, often requiring Linux or Disk Management tools to fix.

This can be avoided by using a USB 2/3 or "C" adapter that the SD cards fits into.  The USB will work on any PC , Mac or Android due to the OS driver being upgradeable unlike the firmware in the built-in SD module.

Sorry it's actually a microSD card. Does this change anything?

HP Recommended

Yea, microSD have the same problems.  In the last few years their density has increased and many devices do not have the correct firmware to read them

If getting an adapter then verify it is USB 3.0 Super Speed Technology and supports MicroSDXC, MicroSDHC, and MicroSD for Window, Mac OS X and Android.

Check the reviews also.
