HP Pavilion 17z-ca000 CTO 3JQ28AV
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

From the start, my SD card slot didn't have a spring release, so I assumed it was just another variant, but it has been awkward to remove media cards. Now I'm thinking it was defective all this time as today, when I insert a media card, there is a very small ping sound as I'm sliding the media into the slot; it sounds like the plucking of a spring. When fully inserted, the media seems loose and the laptop doesn't recognize that media has been inserted. I've tried multiple SD cards that work on another laptop I own. I'm guessing the SD card unit needs to be replaced.  https://partsurfer.hp.com/Search.aspx?type=PROD&SearchText=3JQ28AV shows several options for the SD memory card reader unit. How do I know which is installed without going into the guts of the machine?

Indeed, installing a new L22538-001 6050A2979801 unit resolved the problem. As soon as I turned the machine back on, the new unit was functional, and when I logged in and placed my old memory card in it, the system immediately recognized it and displayed its contents. Problem solved as a hardware issue. YAY!

Thank you, but no, this did not help. I ended up opening the machine and determined that it was an L22538-001 6050A2979801 unit that was installed. The USB part of it works fine, but the memory card reader that worked on the 19th stopped working on the 20th. There are no bent pins inside. I'm guessing I need to replace this item.
