HP BS-164 TU
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hi,

I have HP BS164 TU Laptop.

It has  4GB DDR4 Ram which came with Laptop ( "SK hynix 4GB 1Rx16 PC4-2666V-SC0-11 HMA851S6CJR6N - VK No AC 1810" ).

I want to expand my RAM (keeping my old ram ) to 8 GB.

I found compatible RAMs for my laptop through Crucial website. There are two results.

  1. Crucial 4GB DDR4-2400 Part No : "CT4G4SFS824A" ( X8 BASED )
  2. Crucial 4GB DDR4-2400 Part No : "CT4G4SFS624A" ( X16 BASED )

I want to know, as my current SK hynix RAM is 1Rx16, should I use only X16 BASED Crucial RAM ?

Which one will be compatable with my existing RAM ?

What is the difference between X8 BASED & X16 BASED  ?

Which one is better ?

Please Answer...

Hello.

Basically, x8 vs x16 refers to the data bus size (bits) of the modules chips.

So, x16 modules have 4 chips (single-sided) with 16 bits each, total 64 bits (without ECC).

While x8 have 8 chips (double-sided) with 8 bits each, total 64 bits (without ECC).

Prefer x16, because they are more stable and less power hungry (less chips = less interference, less power consumption, etc)
