I want to use a 960GB SSD instead of the optical drive bay, which is connected with the Universal Serial Bus (just like the internal USB ports). For that, I use a Caddy, which allows me to put an SSD in the optical drive bay. The problem is that it doesn't get recognized, unless I boot with the regular optical drive and then switch it for the SSD. But that is not practical and I want the SSD to be recognized directly, without having to switch the drives.

You need to go into the BIOS/UEFI settings and see if the SSD in the caddy is listed as boot device.

IF it is not, there is nothing you can do to boot from it.

It strangely isn't listed, but that's not my concern, I don't want to boot from it. I just want it to show as an available device once I boot into Windows. I already have the drive partitioned and listed because it did show up when I booted with an optical drive in the drive bay and switched it for the SSD while in Windows.
