HP 15.6 inch Laptop PC 15-e2000 (2J4W0AV)
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hello, I have 15-e2000 (2J4W0AV) with motherboard 887A FP6 59.23. It came with Micron SSD 512GB 2210 NVMe PCIe Gen3 x4 MTFDHBA512QFD M09630-001.

I want to upgrade this to Crucial T500 500GB PCIe Gen4 NVMe M.2 SSD CT500T500SSD8, the difference this being a 2280.

Is this compatible with my mobo? I understand the speed will be at Gen3.

Thanks

The Micron 2210 NVMe SSD is a solid-state drive (SSD) that uses the M.2 2280 form factor

Unless your Micron is defective it is likely both drives are just as fast due to gen 3 speed.

You are getting a newer drive and could upgrade to 2tb but cost more.

Thanks. I will use the Micron in my Elitedesk 800 G4 Plex server build. I have the opportunity to buy the Crucial for $50 new.

I thought this was an existing build you were upgrading.  You may have trouble doing a clean install of Windows with that Micron or even the cheaper crucial.  It is possible that Windows 10 or 11 does not have the drivers to install itself on the M2.  It is rare that this happens but occasionally it does that windows will not install due to a missing driver.

You will need the product id and country code and a serial number to put in a cloud restore. The cloud restore is the best way to get drivers where those notebooks that require to need HP tool.

2J4W0AV + country code + a serial number  if 2J4W0AV is your product ID.

Let me know if a problem.  Also, I do  not have a country code for Thailand but if installing Linux then probably not useful.

I have bought a bare bones Elitedesk 800 G4 SFF to build a Plex server with Windows 11 Pro and Intel i5 8500. This is a learning project. The plan was to use the Micron from my laptop in the server and buy a new M2 for the laptop. I use my laptop for at least 8 hours a day, so any upgrade is a bonus.

I have just checked the HP Cloud Restore with my product number and it is supported. So I have downloaded the software. Ill ask HP Thailand for country code.

I've not yet decided on a SSD. I have a few PCIe 4 options available for 2000 Thai Baht for 500GB, Samsung 980 PRO, WD BLACK SN770, Crucial T500.

For PCIe 3.0, just the Crucial P3 which is slightly cheaper. All other PCIe 3 models are more expensive than v4.

My thoughts are to get a PCIe 4, so that when I eventually replace my laptop, I can add the Micron back to the laptop and put the PCIe 4 in the server (which is PCIe 4). I really don't need anything bigger than 500GB as I have 16TB on the server and I'd rather spend it on RAM.

Thanks for the advice.
