Hi all,

Looking to upgrade SSD/RAM on my Victus.  Currently the laptop has a 512 SSD and 16 GB RAM.

Would like to know what the upgrade capabilities are for this laptop.

Thanks much

The HP-provided part number is the same M.2 2280 PCIe Gen4 x4 NVMe SSD that I already mentioned. You can get any good M.2 2280 PCIe Gen4 x4 SSD like the Samsung 990 Pro, WD Black SN850X, etc. As for RAM, I already told you. You can get them from any trusted source like Amazon. Yes, you can upgrade the NVMe SSD up to 4TB.

As for external SSD, it can be laggy and much slower for regular work. So prefer internal M.2 SSD upgrade.

Your laptop should have a current 16GB single-stick RAM, so you can install another matching 16GB stick for 32GB dual-channel performance. First, check the specs and confirm it's a single stick: download and run CPU-Z, then open the SPD tab. You can post an SPD tab screenshot here so I can check and tell you directly which RAM to buy.

As for the SSD, there are two PCIe Gen4 x4 NVMe slots (512GB occupied, second empty, up to 4TB each). Due to confusion across Victus fa2000 models, first open the laptop and confirm it has the second M.2 slot. You can add a PCIe Gen4 x4 NVMe SSD in the second slot. As for interface, it's likely M.2 2280 which you can also confirm by checking 2nd m.2 slot or inserting that same SSD in 2nd slot. So choose same interface gen 4 SSD. As for the SSD, there are two PCIe Gen4 x4 NVMe M.2 2280 slots (512GB occupied, second empty, up to 4TB each). I will be opening the computer up at some point to verify what is under the hood and will let you know what I find.

You have 16 GB of RAM (single channel) in your laptop. You can add another 16 GB RAM module to the second slot for a total of 32 GB in dual-channel mode. For this, buy one Kingston ValueRAM KVR56S46BS8-16 (5600 MHz) module. This Kingston module matches the specs of your existing RAM, and together they will work great in dual-channel mode, boosting your laptop's gaming performance.

I finally got into the case and confirmed there are two SSD slots and two RAM slots.  Any thoughts on where to purchase SSD cards or suggested manufacturer?  HP sent me the part number for a 1 TB card N45474-001, but would prefer to go 2TB to 4TB.  Also, any ideas on using an external hard drives for adding software or would it be better to stay with SSD on the motherboard?  Thanks again, Chuck
