Hello to the whole community. I have an HP Pavilion cs2111nl - Product: 7KH06EA#ABZ - S.N.: [Personal Information Removed] with BIOS F.32 (out of warranty). The Toshiba MQ04ABF100 mechanical HDD failed and in its place I bought a 2 Tb Samsung 870 EVO SSD drive. But when I mount it, when I turn it back on, the cs2111nl is frozen (the HP logo does not even appear). Having already had a contact with HP support about the problem on an identical and new disk (got on amazon) and since the 2nd one also behaves exactly like the first one, I don't think it is 2 defective disks but a compatibility problem of the HP laptop. At this point I ask you if:
1) is there an updated BIOS that sees Samsung 2 Tb SSDs, like this one (I have the F .32)?
2) is there a list of 2.5 mechanical or solid drives compatible with my cs2111nl?
Thanks in advance
Max

Hi Paul. Thanks for the quick reply.
I am in contact with HP and it appears from the technical manual that the Pavilion's do not provide SSD as a 2nd disk! Only HDD and indeed:
HDD 2 Tb / 5400 rpm if you have 128 Gb NVMe SSD; otherwise 1 TB / 5400 rpm HDD if you have 256 Gb NVMe. I don't know whether to get the 2 Tb internal HDD (WD or Seagate ?) since I have 256 Gb NVMe.
I use a Toshiba 2 Tb external USB HDD and have no problem.

Hi, Max:
None of the BIOS update release notes address any issues with 2.5" SSDs.
HP Pavilion 15-cs2111nl Software and Driver Downloads | HP® Support
HP has no list of compatible 2.5" SATA SSDs in the model series.
Only 2.5" mechanical hard drives were used.
I have read several posts on this forum by folks that have installed Samsung EVO 870 SSDs in their HP notebook and desktop PC that could not get them to work.
I cannot imagine why this is.
The only suggestion I can offer would be to return the 870 and buy a WD Blue SA510 2 TB 2.5" SSD, and hopefully that one will work.

You're very welcome, Max.
The drive capacities are usually just what HP offered in the model series, not the maximum capacity supported.
There are forum members that have installed 2.5" SSDs along with NVMe SSD's so I don't know what the problem could be.
I just know that others have had issues with the Samsung SSDs for some unknown reason.
I guess you will have to decide what you want to do.
Cheers,
Paul
